Contract disputes are common when doing business in California

Running a business includes dealing with a variety of unforeseen issues as they occur. Of the potential bumps in the road for companies in California, contract disputes are common. This happens when a party to a contract fails to adhere to the terms agreed to in the contract. This can result in a breach of contract lawsuit.

One equipment company now has to deal with this type of situation. The company, Leslie Equipment Co., is currently embroiled in a contract dispute with its former client J & S Trucking, Inc. The equipment company is suing the trucking company in a civil complaint filed in late August. The plaintiff alleges that the defendant failed to pay a price that was prearranged in a rental contract.

The prearranged amount in the contract was more than $10,000. The contract was formed in 2014, according to documents filed with the court. An invoice from late November 2014 has been presented as evidence. The plaintiff is asking for the court to order the defendant to pay the initial amount agreed upon in the rental contract along with interest.

Now, the two companies will be looking to settle their differences in the court of law. Both sides will be allowed to present their case, just like in any contract disputes in California. The judge will ultimately decide which side will prevail based upon legal arguments backed by evidence and testimony. Therefore, it is in the best interest of both the defendant and the plaintiff to be properly prepared with thorough knowledge of business and contract laws.
